The Lubbock Independent School District (LISD) has selected the sites for three new elementary schools, costing approximately $151 million combined. The projects, funded by a previously voter-approved efficiency bond, are in the design phase, with construction anticipated to begin in the near future.
The construction projects were given the green light by voters following a bond approved in May 2025. Once completed, the new facilities will consolidate the district’s five current campuses. The new schools are expected to open by the 2028-2029 school year.
The sites selected for the new schools include:
- The O.L. Slaton Middle School Building.
- Williams Elementary.
- The Matthews Building.
The O.L. Slaton building is currently vacant. The district will build the Bean Elementary School on the property, planned to face east and include additional fencing once complete.
Plans include combining both Stewart and Williams Elementary Schools on the current Williams Elementary campus.
The district will build a combined campus for Wolffarth and McWhorter Elementary Schools at the presently vacant Matthews Building.
Each new school will accommodate up to 750 students. The district plans to begin demolishing any existing buildings on the site properties to lay the foundation for construction. After the projects are completed, LISD will either sell, donate or demolish any campus buildings abandoned by the consolidation efforts.
