Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) Executive Director Tim Gatz has announced his retirement. He plans to vacate his role with the agency at the end of October.
Gatz’s decision to step away from public leadership serves as the final capstone to roughly 36 years in the transportation industry – most of which was spent with ODOT.
Among his earliest roles in his professional career, Gatz started with ODOT in 1990 as a drafting technician. He would move on to serve as a special project manager, director of project management, director of administration, director of capital programs and deputy director before accepting his final role as executive director.
Gatz served as executive director for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority between 2016 and 2024. In addition to his capacity as executive director, he has served on Gov. Kevin Stitt’s cabinet as secretary of transportation and transportation advisor for the past eight years.
He graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture. Gatz has received numerous honors throughout his career, including the Governor’s Public Service Award and the Federal Highway Administration’s Partners in Quality Award.
