New York has announced a $35 million Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to expand electric vehicle (EV) charging stations through the Charge Ready NY – Large Public Sector Project program. Applicants have until Oct. 20 to submit proposals.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) will distribute the funding to help eligible entities install Level 2 EV charging stations across the state. Projects are split between off-street and on-street sites and must be available to the public.
Off-street sites must accommodate at least four plugs able to charge up to four vehicles at a minimum of 6.2 kilowatts (kW). They must also have one port that meets ADA accessibility standards.
On-street sites must accommodate at least two plugs able to charge a minimum of two vehicles at 6.2 kW. While NYSERDA encourages on-street sites to include at least one ADA accessible port, applicants are not required to.
Applicants permitted to apply for grant funding include:
- New York state agencies and authorities.
- Local governments.
- State or city university systems.
Awards will range between $1 million and $15 million. These funds will cover up to 80 precent of project costs, requiring the recipients to provide the remaining 20 percent themselves or through other funding means.
Entities will be able to use the awards to cover construction, management, network and procurement costs. These include buying and installing Level 2 charging station hardware, implementing “make-ready” investments or load management expenses on the customer side of the electric utility meter, placing onsite signage, pavement painting and restoring the site following installation.
