Minnesota lawmakers are advancing more than $1 billion in state bond funding for water infrastructure and transportation systems, seeking to kick start construction on dozens of projects statewide.
State lawmakers closed the 2026 legislative session by approving a bipartisan $1.24 billion bonding bill for infrastructure and public works projects. The bill now heads to Gov. Tim Walz for his expected signature.
The House approved the measure 122-11 and the Senate passed it 60-7. The package exceeds both the governor’s proposed $907 million capital budget and the state’s $700 million bonding bill approved in 2025.
The package prioritizes statewide water infrastructure projects, with roughly one-third of the funding directed toward PFAS treatment, drinking water systems, lead pipe replacement and wastewater infrastructure.
Transportation funding in the bill leans heavily toward local road, bridge and interchange projects. The measure also includes funding for high-profile community projects such as renovations to Roy Wilkins Auditorium along with investments in parks, trails and public facilities.
Industry groups said the investments could help stabilize construction employment during a slowdown in Minnesota’s building sector.
