The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has announced a $390 million allocation to rehabilitate and reenergize outdated transit bus infrastructure and fleets.
The funding from the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program will enable transit agencies across the nation to upgrade their transit infrastructure and services, covering 34 projects in total across 19 states. The agencies will build or rehabilitate roughly 11 bus maintenance facilities and procure almost 200 new buses.
The selections were taken from the remaining applications submitted under the original Fiscal Year 2025 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO). The funding comes from the FY 2026 Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities reservoir.
To date, the FTA has provided $2.4 billion in FY 2025 and FY 2026. The allocations have paved the way for 199 projects across 48 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
FTA officials anticipate publishing the next NOFO for the next round of funding through the Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities Program and the Low or No Emission Program later this year.
