VTrans NOFO to promote transportation innovation, projects statewide

June 23, 2026

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) has opened the application window for the latest round of its Mobility and Transportation Innovations (MTI) Grant Program. Recipients may receive funding to drive innovative strategies and initiatives designed to increase mobility, reduce usage of single occupancy vehicles and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. Applications are due by September 21.

The Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) will prioritize work centralized around Transportation Demand Management (TDM) programs. These may include extending or creating programs, developing resources, expanding first mile and last mile initiatives, incentivizing and supporting TDM measure adoption, recruitment and implementations of planned multimodal programs including bike sharing, car sharing and microtransit among others.

Eligible recipients include:

  • Municipalities.
  • Local and regional planning agencies.
  • Transit agencies.
  • School districts or schools.
  • Non-profit organizations.
  • Citizen groups focused on delivering public transportation resources.

Entities may use awards to cover project delivery costs, capital and operational expenses, match funds or plan and implement microtransit solutions.

VTrans will distribute funding across three category ranges: small, medium and large MTI grants.

Large MTI grants account for awards of $100,000 or more. To qualify for this category, projects must prioritize implementation or capital purchases.

Medium MTI grants typically cover awards of around $50,000. Projects in this category may include:

  • Marketing and outreach for TDM programs.
  • Expansion of first mile and last mile programs.
  • Support for employers and/or employees to adopt TDM measures in collaboration with existing or new TDM program providers.
  • Planning for TDM programs.

Small MTI grants deliver around $10,000 on average. Eligible projects include planning of new TDM programs or resources, expansion of first mile and last mile programs and creating and marketing TDM resources.
