Florida State University (FSU) has announced an ambitious plan to invest $374 million over a five-year period to expand the campus’ student housing, dining and parking availability. Construction on early project elements is expected to begin within the next year.
The Northwest Campus Project will prioritize significant expansions to its existing amenities. Inclusions in the project vision feature adding 1,200 student housing beds, a 765-seat dining hall and a multi-story parking garage.
The new student housing will replace older multiple older dorms – Rogers, McCollum and Salley halls. Facility details include a residence life office and a dining facility occupying the first floor. The university plans to demolish the older dorms to make room for Phase 2 buildings that will add another 1,300 beds. The dining hall and parking garage will occupy undeveloped land.
All projects included in the Northwest Campus Project are designed to transform the northern end of the campus into a pedestrian-focused academic and residential hub. The site is underutilized, most notably containing ample surface parking.
The campus is one of the largest public research institutions in the state with a growing student population. FSU’s focus on modernization will help revitalize its outdated infrastructure in preparation for increased student enrollment and evolving expectations for education.
The university is currently in talks with the Division of Bond Finance and the Board of Governors to secure additional funding for the project’s first phase. Officials will continue to finalize construction timelines for the various featured projects.
