ARDOT plans $200M phase of Springdale bypass project

July 10, 2026

The Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT) plans to spend between $200 million and $250 million to complete the third phase of the Highway 612 extension project. Bidding for construction services is slated to open in November later this year.

The Springdale Northern Bypass (SNB) project was split into four distinct segments, connecting Highway 265 to Highway 412. To date, one section has been completed and opened to the public, while the second phase is currently under construction. ARDOT has not scheduled the bid date for the fourth and final phase yet.

The third segment of the highway extension initiative will run from Interstate 49 to Arkansas Highway 265. Spanning 3.3 miles, the department will build four 12-foot travel lanes with six-foot-wide inside shoulders.

The project will also feature 10-foot-wide outside shoulders with a 60-foot-wide divided median. Additional sections of the roadway may include shared-use paths, continuous left turn lanes or two-way left turn lanes.

Plans include building interchanges at I-49, Highway 71B and Highway 265. Frontage roads connecting to the highway will include 10-foot travel lanes with four-foot shoulders on either side. ARDOT will fully control all access along the route, only permitting entrances and exits at the chosen interchange locations.
