Government Market News StaffWashington – Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is moving forward with plans for a replacement drinking water reservoir in the Bitter Lake Neighborhood. The 21-million-gallon Bitter Lake Reservoir is estimated to cost $91 million.
Project design plans continue to be developed based on technical and public input. The project is currently 60% through its design phase. Design, permitting and community outreach on the project will continue through 2025, with a three-year construction period expected to start in 2026. The new reservoir will replace the existing one, reaching the end of its service life.
The reservoir will be partially buried, creating additional open space for Seattle Parks and Recreation to turn into a park. Construction on the park will begin once the reservoir is completed.
