Government Market News StaffThe Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is searching for design firms for a $452 million replacement hospital in Wichita Falls and a new $159 million facility in Amarillo. The Texas Legislature recently approved funding for both hospitals.
The North Texas State Hospital in Wichita Falls is a replacement hospital and provides 24 maximum security beds, 136 forensic beds, 24 adolescent beds and 16 civil beds.
Construction of the facility is estimated to cost $300 million. An additional $152 million has been allocated to cover demolition of surrounding buildings, utility updates, hazardous materials abatement and consulting services. Funding will also cover site improvements to the campus, including roadways, parking, ramps, sidewalks and landscaping.
A new 75-bed state hospital will be built in Amarillo with patient living and sleeping areas; therapy and treatment rooms; and spaces for clinic programs, administration and support services. Construction costs are estimated at $100 million.
HHSC must still complete site selection, land acquisition and analysis.
