$170M secured for western Harris County projects

September 22, 2023

Multiple projects in western Harris County are moving forward due to a $170 million investment from Precinct 4 and several partner organizations. The projects include construction of approximately 200 bus shelters, 14 trail-connection projects, eight intersection and sidewalk renovations, eight Brays Bayou tunnels, five parks and one pedestrian promenade.

Precinct 4 will allocate $88 million, and organizations such as the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County (METRO), Houston Parks Board, various MUDs and other entities will contribute $82 million.

One project, the Buffalo Bayou Greenway Connector initiative, is set to link Memorial and Buffalo Bayou Parks. The $13.5 million investment will unite the western and eastern regions of Harris County.

Eleven projects will begin moving through the final design, permitting and construction process starting in October 2023. Cost estimates for each project are still being determined, and project timelines will vary on a case-by-case basis.
