Greensboro recreation complex aims for construction in 2025

North Carolina – Work is moving forward on the $75 million Windsor Chavis Nocho Community Complex in Greensboro. The facility would include a recreation center, library and park at one site.

Greensboro residents approved the project in 2022 by passing a $50 million bond package. In addition to bond funds, city officials are seeking $8 million in federal pandemic relief money and $15 million from Guilford County. City officials plan to buy equipment, such as heating, ventilation and air conditioning components ahead of time to counter inflation.

Current designs of the recreation center include an indoor pool with a lazy river, water slide, gym, walking track, café, teaching kitchen, sensory room, reading and computer lounge, and community meeting rooms.

The design phase is estimated to be completed in December. Preparing the construction documents and permitting is scheduled to begin in January 2024 with bidding and contract approval set for December 2024. Construction is expected to begin in February 2025 and be completed by March 2027.
