Officials in Georgetown County, South Carolina, has revealed a master plan to refurbish Wachesaw Park, bringing significant and welcome changes to the rundown public space.
County officials recently delivered a presentation pertaining to the project’s holistic vision. Wachesaw Park has been developed over time without a broader, comprehensive plan guiding decision-making processes, resulting in a non-uniform, disconnected design that doesn’t align with community needs.
The master plan will help the county course correct on the park’s development, strategically transforming the site to replace aging infrastructure, install utilities and increase safety and accessibility. The county will complete the project across three phases.
Phase 1 will target amenities that have been in place for more than four decades. Planned improvements will include additional parking areas, a playground, walking trail, multi-sport court and off-leash dog exercise area.
Phases 2 and 3 will further expand the park’s footprint by building a restroom facility, a nature trail, a picnic area and a splash pad. The site will also include ample open greenspace areas for community events and activities.
