The University of Iowa (UIowa) Board of Regents have signaled the go-ahead to upgrade the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Projected to cost between $50 million and $70 million, construction is expected to begin later this year.
UIowa plans to finalize the arena’s comprehensive cost after it completes the planning and design phases. The arena has been in operation since 1984 and has since become outdated and misaligned with modern needs and expectations.
The university plans to modernize the building to improve its operational efficiency, accessibility and overall event experience. Major renovations planned for the site include modernizing the:
- Concourse.
- Concessions.
- Restrooms.
- Seating bowl.
- Accessible seating areas.
Officials will also examine upcoming opportunities to incorporate premium seating and improve club spaces throughout the arena. Additional plans include potentially expanding the range of seating and viewing options available throughout the facility and modernizing or enhancing adjacent areas to the arena bowl.
Construction is expected to be completed in phases over the next two years.
