Officials in Avon Lake, Ohio, have unveiled the next steps for the construction of a new intermediate and middle school, renovations to local elementary schools and other campus improvements. The projects are funded by a $88.1 million voter-approved bond.
Together, the measures gave Avon Lake City Schools the authority to move forward with long-planned facility upgrades.
District officials are now deep in the design development phase of the new 128,000-square-foot middle school, which will replace Learwood Middle School and Troy Intermediate School.
In addition to the new 5–8 campus, the bond funds renovations at the district’s elementary schools, including infrastructure upgrades, classroom modernization and improvements designed to extend the life of existing buildings.
Officials and district administrators have sought community input and held feedback sessions with teachers to refine classroom layouts, technology integration and specialty spaces. Last month, the team publicly unveiled animated renderings offering one of the first detailed glimpses of what the future campus could look like.
Officials say the project remains on budget and on schedule for a targeted opening in the 2028–29 school year.
