Voters in De Soto, Kansas, have approved a $99.85 million bond measure that will fund safety upgrades, expanded career and technical education programs and additional classroom space across the growing Kansas district.
District officials said the bond package is designed to address enrollment growth while aligning facility improvements with the district’s long-term strategic plan.
Projects funded by the measure include expanded career and technical education (CTE) spaces, safety and security upgrades at multiple campuses, and additional classroom capacity to accommodate increasing student enrollment.
The bond will also fund additions and renovations at secondary schools to expand Special Education spaces, add orchestra facilities and build multipurpose areas that will double as storm shelters at all three middle schools.
School leaders said the investments are intended to ensure facilities keep pace with both population growth in the district and evolving workforce education needs.
District officials said the proposal was developed through months of public outreach, including 12 community meetings where residents reviewed priorities and project plans before the measure went to voters.
The district also emphasized that the $99.85 million package can be financed without increasing the current property tax rate, allowing upgrades and program expansions to move forward as enrollment grows in De Soto, Kansas and surrounding communities.
