Voters in the Holland School District (HSD), Michigan, overwhelmingly approved a $49.2 million bond proposal earlier this month, enabling the district to finish and begin several critical facility projects.
Among the articles funded by the bond, one of the main components will be the renovation of Jefferson Elementary. The project – buoyed by the approved bond measure – will use approximately $15 million to be converted into the Holland Language Academy, providing additional learning spaces for students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Another $19 million will be dedicated to building an on-campus multi-use stadium. The stadium will be located at Holland High School (HHS) and will provide adequate facilities and amenities for athletics, performing arts and community events. A new football field is planned among these improvements.
The remaining $15.2 million will go toward making a variety of improvements across all campuses. Plans include replacing roofs and heating/cooling systems districtwide, including the HHS geothermal plant. The high school and middle school will also receive updated locker rooms.
HSD plans to refurbish the tennis courts, relining them to be compatible with pickleball. The district will buy new buses, update security features across all campus facilities and procure and install instructional technology and related equipment.
Passage of the bond proposal builds on the district past work in building and expanding campus facilities and offerings. Previous projects have included building new school buildings, playgrounds, classrooms, learning spaces, updating technology and security, procuring transportation and upgrading existing facilities.
