Alabama approves nearly $82M for Mobile affordable housing developments

June 18, 2025

The Alabama Housing Finance Authority (AHFA) has approved four affordable housing developments in the city of Mobile. The housing developments, totaling nearly $82 million in costs, will bring 218 new affordable housing units to the city.

Spread across the city, the housing projects include:

  • 56 new units at Hurtel Crossing with a $1 million contribution from the city.
  • 56 new units for local seniors at Maryvale Village with a $1 million contribution from the city.
  • 50 new units at Fred Marshall Court with a $10.5 million contribution from the city.
  • 56 new units at Providence Park with a $7.5 million contribution from the city.

The four projects represent about $82 million in total investment, including $20 million in contributions from the city, federal tax credits and state bonds through the AHFA and private capital from development partners.

Excluding the project at Providence Park, which is funded through the city’s American Rescue Plan Act allocation, the city of Mobile’s financial contributions to these projects will come from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Disaster Recovery allocations awarded by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, according to the release.

The city expects construction on all four housing developments to begin early next year and to be completed in 2028.

The projects will advance the city’s mission to create more affordable housing units for low-income families and to alleviate the housing shortage in Mobile.
