Brookhaven’s pedestrian bridge project advances with new funding agreement

July 27, 2026

Officials with DeKalb County, the city of Brookhaven and Emory University in Georgia have reached a funding agreement to advance a $15.8 million pedestrian and bicycle bridge project into final design and construction.

The Peachtree Creek Greenway Connector Bridge is intended to provide a safer route across Interstate 85 for pedestrians and cyclists traveling between Emory University’s Executive Park campus and the Peachtree Creek Greenway. The bridge will also connect to existing trail networks, including Brookhaven’s trail system, DeKalb County’s Trails and Greenways Network, the Atlanta Beltline and PATH400.

Through a public-private partnership, the project will be completed without using property tax revenue. According to the agreement, Emory University will fund the project over a 10-year period.  Emory has also granted easements for one side of the bridge, while a local automotive group has granted easements for the other.

An engineering firm developed the design, which calls for a 14-foot-wide multiuse path with stairs, an elevator and a ramp to provide access.

City officials said the bridge will improve mobility for surrounding communities while providing more convenient access to jobs, healthcare services and recreational opportunities. Final design is expected in 2027, with construction anticipated to begin in 2028.
