The Texas A&M University (TAMU) System will invest $30 million into a renovation project for the HEEP Laboratory Building at its College Station Campus. Construction is expected to begin in March 2027.
Major project components will include renovating 26,624 gross square feet of the Level 2 historic building. Renovation work will include providing enough space for nine principal investigators, computer lab space for graduate instruction and a human neuroscience lab to train undergraduate and graduate students in human neuroscience research methods.
In addition, the university will expand flexible testing space to support principal investigators throughout the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department. Other support spaces will include a small reception area, two departmental conference rooms, a work/break lounge on each floor and office space for post-doctoral students.
The project will include several deferred maintenance items that the university will address. These include repairing facade concrete spalling at shade canopy spots and upgrading the crawlspace by mitigating and repairing water intrusion, removing abandoned utilities, replacing stair access and installing a ventilation system.
Additional improvements include replacing the roof, installing insulation, cleaning and re=pointing brick at exterior elevations and replacing bathrooms. TAMU will also install a fire suppression system for Levels 1 and 2 and a building lightning protection system.
