Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) has received a $108 million commitment from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to invest in upgraded airport infrastructure.
The airport will use the funds to advance a portion of its Journey With AUS expansion program, targeting essential capital projects to help meet passenger demands and accommodate future growth. The Airfield Capacity Improvements Project will build new taxiways and upgrade airfield infrastructure.
Work that will directly benefit from the federal funding will predominantly revolve around support for the future Concourse B. These projects include high-speed exits, infrastructure dedicated to reducing congestion, enhancing operational safety and increasing capacity.
Concourse B is one of the cornerstone components of the Journey With AUS expansion program, adding a total of 20 new gates once work is completed. The concourse will provide ample space for expanded retail opportunities, including restaurants, shops, lounges, live music venues and additional passenger amenities.
The funding will be delivered through the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP), dedicated to distributing grants to public agencies to plan and develop public airports. AUS has already received $96.3 million from the agency’s Airport Terminal Program for the Concourse B and Tunnel project. While the newly awarded grant will be pivotal in progressing the initiative, AUS will continue to apply for more federal funding to accelerate project development.
