The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced a $626.7 million funding opportunity from across three fiscal years for transportation infrastructure projects. The DOT’s Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway Projects (INFRA) program is divided into two tracks.
Track 1 includes projects like highways, bridges and multimodal freight systems, wildlife crossing areas and marine highways. The track also prioritizes land-side surface transportation access to air cargo hubs and commercial spaceports to strengthen the American aerospace sector. Supported by FY 2023 and FY 2024 funds, Track 1 prioritizes large-scale projects costing more than $150 million.
Track 2 is derived from FY 2026 funds and focuses on commercial truck parking projects. DOT said the $200 million investment is intended to address a nationwide shortage of safe parking spaces for drivers, improve highway safety and support more efficient freight movement along key transportation corridors. While Track 1 emphasizes large projects, Track 2 sets aside 50%, or about $100 million, for small projects. Track 2 applicants may also partner with private entities to develop or maintain facilities, though no fees may be charged to commercial drivers for parking at those locations.
NFRA eligibility is open to state, regional and local governments, tribal governments, federal land management agencies and multi-state corridor organizations.
Applications for Track 1 are due no later than July 1. Applications for Track 2 are due by July 15.
