The Arkansas Department of Agriculture (ADA) has opened applications for a $25 million program to break ground on water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Applications are due by Sept. 11.
The Water and Sewer Treatment Facilities Grant Program will deliver $25 million each year for the next three years. It was recently established to help communities cross the final funding gaps needed to complete essential water and wastewater capital initiatives, moving them from planning into construction.
“By focusing on shovel‑ready projects, we can accelerate improvements that directly benefit Arkansans and better position water and wastewater systems to meet future needs,” said Chris Colclasure, Director of the Department’s Natural Resources Division.
Eligible applicants include:
- Cities.
- Towns.
- Counties.
- Rural development authorities and improvement districts.
- Water and wastewater treatment districts.
- Public facilities boards and water associations.
- Regional solid waste authorities and conservation districts.
To qualify, all entities must match awards with their own 30% cost-share. These funds will be based on population and project type. Projects must be considered shovel-ready, with construction ready to begin within a year of receiving the award.
Projects that qualify for receiving state funding include:
- Public water supply, treatment and distribution systems.
- Water meter replacements.
- Sewer collection and treatment systems.
- Solid waste collection or disposal.
- Irrigation and flood control.
- Erosion and sediment control.
- Agricultural best management practices.
