Alabama opens SEEDS program to prepare development-ready, industrial sites

July 7, 2025

Alabama is making funding available for projects that prepare industrial sites for redevelopment or construction in the latest round of the Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy (SEEDS) grant program.

Gov. Kay Ivey recently announced that round three of Alabama’s SEEDS grant program is open, with $23.2 million available for industrial site development across the state.

The SEEDS initiative is a matching-grant program administered by the Alabama Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA). Receiving additional oversight from the State Industrial Development Authority, the program’s goal is to create a strong inventory of development-ready sites.

The third round of SEEDS offers funding for local economic development organizations, including cities, counties, industrial development boards or authorities, chambers of commerce and nonprofit foundations working on economic growth. Applicants may seek grants for site assessment or site development.

This round builds on previous rounds that funded 56 industrial sites statewide. Applications for round three are open now through Sept. 30 via the EDPA portal.
