The Texas Space Commission (TSC) board of directors has announced more than $20 million in approved projects, with an additional $34 million remaining.
At the board’s meeting Thursday, the commission announced it would award:
- Up to $10 million to CesiumAstro Inc. for equipment, research and development of a state-of-the-art satellite manufacturing and testing facility.
- Up to $5.5 million to Axiom Space for development of orbital data centers to match networking satellite data sources for AI and machine learning.
- Up to $4.7 million to Aldrin Family Foundation for development of a satellite space program for high school students pursuing STEM careers.
- Up to $347,196 to FluxWorks, Inc. for development of a magnetically-geared actuator for the International Space Station.
- Up to $175,000 to the West Central Texas Council of Governments for a feasibility study on space-related infrastructure spanning 19 counties in West Texas.
The board’s chair said 128 applications are still under review. Of those pending proposals, 31 were submitted by higher education institutions.
TSC has received 280 proposals in total, awarding $115.9 million across 19 approved projects.
The board also received updates from the Texas Aerospace Research and Space Economy Consortium (TARSEC) Liaison, which has opened its membership beyond higher education institutions. The consortium is gathering additional input from the public to identify gaps and opportunities in space development.
