During its Jan. 14, meeting, the University of Georgia (UGA) Board of Regents approved a $115.7 million public-private partnership (P3) project to renovate Creswell Hall, a historic residence facility. Now moving into the design phase, construction is anticipated to begin in May 2027.
The project will modernize the 62-year-old building, ensuring the nine-story, 188,000-square-foot hall will be able to properly accommodate its occupants. The renovations will be modeled after work performed on similar projects that are currently under construction.
The university will include 924 beds in a shared, double-room format. Each room will feature ample natural lighting, built-in open closets, adjustable loft beds, flexible furniture configurations and temperature controls. The hall will focus on functionality and community, featuring improvements such as a shared common space where the laundry room doubles as a student lounge.
Additional common areas included in the project’s vision will include large meeting rooms, private meeting and study spaces and community bathrooms with improved privacy features. The hall will feature a number of small floor kitchenettes and a larger community kitchen.
UGA will completely lift the building’s exterior, performing extensive maintenance work on the facade and installing updated windows and modernized aesthetics. Students will also benefit from a total rework of the facility’s utilities, featuring an overhaul of its mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.
