Wisconsin school receives approval for $25M dormitory

March 14, 2025

The Wisconsin School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing will build a $25 million student dormitory. Currently in the design phase, construction is expected to begin in September 2025.

The project will consist of a 50,500-square-foot, three-story campus dormitory. The facility will replace Huff Hall. The existing building fails to meet modern safety requirements. Project leaders determined renovating Huff Hall would be more expensive than building a new structure.

The building will feature a “great hall-style” breakout area, as well as circulation space separating private dormitory areas from public areas.

The new construction will provide a direct connection between student housing and the rest of campus, including dining services in adjacent student and education centers.

The school will reserve the first two levels of the building for K-12 students. The top floor will house young adult students.
