Jerrod KingeryDevelopers are planning to transform acres of land near Dallas Fort Worth International Airport into a transit-oriented entertainment, retail and housing development situated between Fort Worth and Grand Prairie.
The River Central development will have a 56,000-square-foot concert venue, 140-room hotel and over 1,300 multifamily housing units. The site will also feature retail, restaurants, 120,000 square feet of office space, and 50 acres of open green space and hike and bike trails along three miles of the Trinity River.
Located in both Grand Prairie and Fort Worth, the project recently received unanimous approval from the Fort Worth Zoning Commission to rezone 25 acres at 3500, 3508, and 3518 State Highway 360 from “agriculture” to “high intensity mixed-use.”
During the meeting on Oct. 9, Ken Schaumburg, architect and partner in the River Central project, said it would be “a true transit-oriented development” and would be built near the CentrePoint/DFW Airport train station.
Schaumburg noted that the engineering for the project is 80% complete, and groundbreaking is expected in 12 to 15 months.
The finished project would be valued at $2 billion, according to a report from the Dallas Business Journal.
