Voters in the North East Independent School District (NEISD) in San Antonio have approved three out of five propositions featured in the $495 million bond ballot, advancing NEISD’s improvement plan.
Propositions D and E were denied by voters, turning down $12 million that would have otherwise gone toward updates for the district’s stadiums and repairs for a natatorium. The remaining $483 million will enable NEISD to implement vital district-wide projects, making general improvements, procuring new technology and renovating athletics fields.
The lion’s share of the approved bond funds – $400.3 million – will be dedicated to completing various general projects across all campuses included in Proposition A. These efforts will prioritize replacing or improving HVAC systems, plumbing, water heaters and roofing.
NEISD’s improvement plan will also enhance safety and security measures, implement cybersecurity solutions and replace or repair vehicles, buses and parking lots. A selection of other projects that will be funded through the bond include building or replacing auditoriums, upgrading Career and Technical Education (CTE) Centers, improving and renovating office and classroom spaces, replacing windows and upgrading playgrounds.
Proposition B will dedicate $53.5 million to procuring technology to facilitate learning. Staff and teachers will receive updated laptops while students will also benefit from new devices. Additional technologies featured in the proposition will include printers, photocopiers, audiovisual equipment, charging devices and refreshed computer labs.
The remaining $29 million will support athletics improvements listed in Proposition C. Among the major projects planned, the district will renovate the Littleton Gymnasium’s bleachers, floor, basketball goals, scoreboards, concessions, restrooms, lobby, lighting, sound system, locker rooms and scoring table. The district will also build a second competitive gym floor.
The Blossom Athletic Center will receive significant improvements as part of the bond. The project vision calls for replacing and upgrading the soccer and baseball fields’ restrooms, concessions, press box, dugouts and dressing rooms.
Repairs and upgrades to the tennis center will include water heaters, roofing, HVAC equipment and power distribution systems. NEISD will also convert all stadium lighting to LEDs, build a maintenance and equipment building, storage for the tennis and swim center and install artificial turf at the district softball complex.
