New Braunfels secures $146M for regional transportation projects

December 26, 2025

The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (AAMPO) in Texas has approved approximately $146 million in transportation funding, allowing New Braunfels to continue or begin seven construction projects. The funding supports three ongoing projects and four new investments included in AAMPO’s 2027–2030 Transportation Improvement Program.

The three ongoing projects total $30.1 million and include improvements to Barbarosa Road and Saur Lane, FM 725, and the I-35 interchange at Solms. The additional funding is intended to help keep these projects moving as construction costs rise.

About $56.25 million will support four new transportation projects focused on multimodal improvements. These include sidewalk and pedestrian upgrades in several neighborhoods, roadway and streetscape improvements on West San Antonio and Spur streets, traffic signal timing upgrades, and major interchange work at I-35 and Loop 337. The projects aim to improve safety, traffic flow, pedestrian access, and overall connectivity as the city continues to grow.

The latest approvals add about $86 million in new and supplemental funding, bringing AAMPO’s total programmed investment in New Braunfels transportation projects to roughly $146 million.
