Funding opportunity of hydropower research closing soon

April 18, 2024

The Hydropower Research, Development, and Demonstration program funds projects that will improve hydropower technologies.

The Department of Energy (DOE) announced a $9.5 million Notice of Funding (NOFO) for approximately seven projects. Eligible recipients include industry organizations, national labs, academic institutions and other relevant entities.

The grants are intended for research, development, demonstration and commercial application of technologies that enhance various aspects of hydropower systems, including capacity, efficiency, resilience, security, reliability, affordability and environmental impact.

Examples of projects selected in February include a $5 million modernization project in Idaho, the $2.1 million replacement of a hydropower generating unit in Virginia and a $1 million hydropower efficiency improvement project in Connecticut.

The NOFO closes April 25, 2024.
