The city of Flower Mound plans to dedicate $50 million to build an arts center within the River Walk District, a price that is anticipated to cover a portion of the project’s total cost. The town will nail down the final estimate during the design phase.
The project is slated to conclude the predesign phase soon after drafting a facility program based on public input. Once the town has finalized the facility program recommendation, they will select a Construction Manager at Risk to head the project and move into the schematic design phase.
While the project remains in the early stages, town officials remain optimistic that the fully realized arts center will revitalize the town’s cultural scene. Slated to be built on a 3.67-acre plot of land, the center will host several notable amenities designed to turn it into a hub of activity for recreation, performances and economic development.
Among the center’s amenities, the town will ensure it comes equipped with a main stage theater and a flexible black box performance space. Other areas will be dedicated to a multipurpose room for music and dance alongside additional multipurpose classrooms.
Plans include building a series of music practice rooms, music studio and production spaces and administration and support spaces. The project vision calls for a gallery and exhibition space to host rotating shows and receptions.
Finally, the town will build an outdoor performing space with an event lawn. The completed center will provide connections to the riverwalk trail system as well as nearby restaurants and retail locations. By extension, establishing a new cultural hub will contribute to the River Walk District’s foot traffic, catalyzing economic growth and aesthetic appeal to prospective businesses and visitors.
