District officials in Delphos, Ohio, will move forward with plans for a modern middle school to replace Jefferson Middle School after receiving $20 million in state funding from Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC). The school plans to match the award with $2.25 million in local funding. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027.
The current facility is more than 120 years old, living long past its expected service life cycle. Officials have noted that full replacement is the best possible option, building a modern facility that will either stand alone or be attached to the high school.
While plans are still in development, the school intends to create a future-ready environment for its students, preparing them for graduation and the world beyond. The OFCC and the school will collaborate on forming the project’s final vision, prioritizing an innovative, student-centered building lasting years to come.
As part of the project, the school anticipates that it will include a new gymnasium for the high school. The middle school will take over the current high school gym following the transition. In addition, the project vision calls for a new cafetorium.
School officials have also noted that the funding will enable them to build a school equipped with cutting-edge technology and include the latest safety and health amenities.
