New York voters approved last month the second phase of the Dansville School District’s capital improvements project. The plan to improve the district’s facilities was voted for with 77% in favor of the 2025 Capital Improvement Project. The $23.3 million initiative will expand on work completed in the district during Phase One.
The first phase saw $5.8 million support critical roof replacements across the district and other high priority needs at Dansville Primary School.
Phase Two will expand on the previous phase by addressing additional planned improvements and needs identified and prioritized across all the district buildings. The top priorities include code compliance and safety requirements, asset preservation needs, and the replacement of infrastructure and mechanical systems that are out of warranty or past their life expectancy. Projects are planned at Dansville Primary School, the Ellis B. Hyde Elementary School, Dansville High School, and the district transportation building.
Specific project scopes include bathroom renovations for ADA compliance, service road replacements, the replacement of water lines to address freezing issues, replacing cracking or failing floors and foundations, corridor upgrades, and new technologies. The details of the projects being completed at each location can be found here.
The capital improvements project will have no impact on district taxes. Nearly 88% of the project cost will be funded through New York state building aid. The remaining local share of about 12.4% will be fully offset by utilizing retiring debt service and $4,615,000 coming from the Capital Reserve, which is designated funds used specifically for capital improvements.
Following the recent vote, a design phase is expected to last through August 2026. After this, a SED review and approval period as well as a biding and awarding phase will last into spring 2027. Phase two construction is planned to begin in the summer of 2027 with an expected completion in the fall of 2028.
