The Georgia Ports Authority Board has approved an additional 50 acres of pavement to handle the growing volume of trade at the Colonel’s Island Terminal.
The program includes numerous projects designed to help the airport, which has regularly broken passenger records, meet the needs of the growing Central Texas region.
The funding will support district initiatives to expand electric vehicle infrastructure, transition its fleet to zero-emission vehicles and reduce air pollution
The project will install solar lighting and green medians along a 1.8-mile stretch of road, build 2.9-miles of shared-use path, convert three intersections to roundabouts and rehabilitate a portion of the road to mitigate flooding.
The plan includes ordering 2,000 railcars, making 60 existing stations accessible, and adding secure fare gates that address safety and accessibility concerns.
