Up to $20 million in no-match federal grants is being made available to local governments to make improvements to transportation infrastructure.
The funding is available through the Regional Infrastructure Accelerators (RIA) Program and will be distributed via the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Build America Bureau.
Applications must be submitted by June 16.
The RIA assists entities in developing improved infrastructure priorities and financing strategies to accelerate development of projects likely to qualify for USDOT credit assistance.
Awards may be used to fund technical resources, planning and project development through innovative financing and delivery methods that include public-private partnerships, USDOT said. The Build America Bureau previously awarded $34 million to 24 accelerators that are using the funding to expedite planning, development and delivery at local and regional levels.
- The Central Ohio Transit Authority is using its award to develop the $8 billion LinkUS Mobility Initiative, a comprehensive regional transportation and development plan to accommodate growth and expand options.
- Fort Lauderdale’s award is being used to develop a comprehensive analysis of financial and economic factors before proceeding with a project to replace the New River Crossing train bridge.
- Louisiana is using an RIA grant to conduct studies and advance development of the Lafayette Regional Expressway, a proposed toll road in south Louisiana.
