The Washington State Department of Commerce (Commerce) is accepting applications for $212.4 million in funding for multifamily affordable housing developments. Applications are open until Oct. 16.
Funding will be distributed through two Notices of Funding Availability (NOFO). The first NOFO covers capital financing from the state Housing Trust Fund. It supports projects and programs that improve housing options for residents, including Apple Health and Homes and housing for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The second NOFO covers the federal HOME and National Housing Trust Fund programs, which are tied to the state’s 2025-2029 housing plan. Awarded funding is designed to support construction and new developments.
Combined, the funds will support the construction or rehabilitation of affordable rental housing. Award announcements are expected in January 2026. Commerce will provide technical assistance, webinars and predevelopment grants for new developers during the application period.
Key priorities for applicants include reserving units for households earning no more than 30% of the area median income, serving people experiencing homelessness or with behavioral health needs, reducing barriers for communities of color and tribal members. State officials expect awarded funding to benefit both rural and urban areas, demonstrate project readiness and feasibility, address preservation or new construction needs and ensure long-term affordability in Washington’s housing market.
