The University of Alabama at Huntsville (UAH) will spend $34.4 million to build an on-campus cutting-edge regional cybersecurity hub. Currently in the design phase, construction on the project is expected to begin in late 2025 or 2026.
During an April 4 meeting, the UA System Board of Trustees approved Stage 2 of the Center for Cybersecurity Research, Education and Advanced Training project. Once completed, the university will consolidate the UAH cybersecurity programs into a single facility.
The project will renovate the existing Bevill Center into the new cybersecurity hub, renovating 45,000 square feet across the building’s first and second floors. The facility will include specialized laboratories, modern classrooms and collaborative environments to facilitate cybersecurity engineering, artificial intelligence and secure software development instruction. Additional spaces will be provided for faculty offices, research labs and collaborative areas for external companies partnered with the university on research.
Once completed, the university will be able to expand the research capabilities of the Center for Cybersecurity Research and Education (CCRE), enabling the system to better address a developing need for cybersecurity-centric disciplines and programs. The CCRE positions UAH as a national leader in cybersecurity, leading a nationwide coalition to advance cybersecurity education alongside three other universities.
