Texas BDO awards $10M to replace broadband poles in underserved areas

April 11, 2025

As part of the second round of the Broadband Pole Replacement Program, the Broadband Development Office (BDO) has identified eight applicants to receive $9.8 million.

The Texas Broadband Pole Replacement Program has allocated $75 million to help accelerate broadband access expansion. Recipients will use the funds to reimburse projects that remove and replace poles in underserved regions.

The BDO anticipates partially reimbursing replacement projects for more than 7,800 poles that support retail broadband services. Entities receiving funding include pole owners and retail broadband service providers that have made expenditures to replace poles in eligible areas and projects. These include:

  • Removing or disposing existing poles.
  • Buying or installing a replacement pole.
  • Transferring existing facilities to the replacement pole.

The first round of the program distributed $18.5 million. Since the program still has funds available, the BDO will issue subsequent Notices of Funding Availability until the balance is depleted.
