The city will invest $48.7 million to reconstruct a series of critical roadways in order to support multimodal mobility, enhance traffic safety and revitalize transportation infrastructure.
The grants will be allocated to local, regional and tribal communities for projects to reduce fatalities and severe injuries on rural and urban roads across the U.S.
The existing technology for grade crossing warnings has largely remained unchanged since the 1960s, and includes flashing red lights, warning bells and gates.
The awards will be used to implement safety countermeasures, install dedicated paths for non-motorized travelers, redevelop roadways and enhance public transportation accessibility.
