Rockland advances Hingham Street Corridor improvement project

February 6, 2026

The Rockland Select Board in Massachusetts has advanced a local street corridor improvement project seeking to modernize Rockland’s commercial hubs and improve access.

With design plans nearly 75% complete, Rockland officials are selecting a scaled-back plan for the $25 million Hingham Street Corridor project, improving its chances of securing additional construction funding. The project’s design phase is supported through a state-funded MassWorks grant.

Although both streets are major corridors in Rockland, the two initiatives involve different parts of town. The Hingham Street/Reservoir Park Drive project is focused on a commercial area near Route 3 and is intended to support expected growth tied to the nearby Union Point redevelopment. Plans for the corridor include widening and resurfacing Hingham Street between Route 3 and Reservoir Park Drive, adding sidewalks on the south side of the road, and reconfiguring the Hingham Street/Reservoir Park Drive intersection to improve traffic flow and safety.

Union Street is situated in the southern part of the town and runs through older neighborhoods and historic areas. Proposed projects along this route would include sidewalk and façade improvements in deteriorating areas. To qualify for the Slum and Blight designation and receive accompanying federal funds, the town must demonstrate that at least 25% of properties within the project boundaries are in fair or poor condition.

A vote on the Union Street designation request is set for February, and a public outreach meeting about the Hingham Street project is scheduled for March. Officials say construction on the Hingham Street project could begin as early as 2027.
