Pasco County advances design for $42M widening project

October 1, 2025

The Pasco County Board of County Commissioners (BCC) in Florida has put a $42.4 million project into motion to widen a 2.4-mile stretch of road from Wesley Chapel Boulevard to Sonny Drive. Construction is expected to begin in 2029.

During its Sept. 16 meeting, the board signed on a designer to prepare the project for the construction phase. The company will receive $3.8 million for their work with plans to conclude the design phase by April 2027.

The county’s primary focus for the project revolves around widening the roadway to four lanes, two in each direction. The project also calls for building bike lanes on both sides and a sidewalk on the west side.

Additional project details include installing a multi-use path on the east side of the road along with adequate lighting. The county will implement stormwater management efforts and landscaping to increase the project’s resiliency and aesthetic appeal.

Project teams anticipate the design phase to conclude in 2027, with the improvements slated for completion in January 2031. Additional updates will be provided by the county as the design phase continues.
