Massachusetts is advancing educational, workforce development and healthcare opportunities by expanding technology access through innovative state programs.
One program, Connected & Online, is a digital empowerment initiative to distribute up to 27,000 internet-enabled devices to organizations across Massachusetts, expanding access to education, workforce training and telehealth through on-site device stations and public lending programs.
The program will prioritize Gateway Cities and rural communities. Each eligible organization may request up to 500 devices, which will be delivered fully configured with software and warranties at no cost. No direct funds will be provided for device purchases.
Funding for the over $23 million program is being provided through the U.S. Treasury’s Capital Projects Fund (CPF). The initiative is jointly administered by the Executive Office of Economic Development, the federal recipient and the Massachusetts Broadband Institute at MassTech (MBI), the implementing subrecipient.
Projects must demonstrate how they will enable access across all three CPF domains — workforce development, education and health monitoring. Eligible applicants must be physically located in Massachusetts, in good standing and represent one of the following entity types:
- Municipal or state agencies.
- Tribal nations.
- Nonprofit organizations.
- Philanthropic foundations.
- Educational or healthcare providers.
- Community action agencies.
- Career centers.
- Libraries.
- Similar organizations that meet program requirements.
Applications will be reviewed by MBI staff. More information and detailed application requirements are available on the program’s website. Applications are due Nov. 7, with an optional priority deadline of Oct.31 for applicants who wish to respond to clarifying questions from MBI staff. Organizations may submit one application only.
