Loudoun County’s Northstar Boulevard in Virginia will undergo a four-lane widening project, including the addition of new paths and crossings, with design phases lasting until 2026.
The project will design and build two lanes along Northstar Boulevard between Tall Cedars Parkway and Braddock Road, expanding the existing two-lane stretch to a four-lane roadway divided by a median. Estimate for construction in late 2028, plans include a shared-use path running alongside the new travel lanes, a pedestrian crossing to serve John Champe High School, modifications to an existing traffic signal and new signals as warranted.
This project is funded by a combination of Loudoun County taxes and state revenue sharing from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The project is in its earliest phase and consists of six phases from design to completion, according to the project website. Officials estimate a full timeline for the project, including the following dates:.
- Spring 2025: Design.
- Winter 2026: Right of Way.
- Summer 2027: Utility Relocation.
- Winter 2028: Procurement of Construction Contractor.
- Fall 2028: Construction Start.
- Fall 2030: Substantial Completion.
The project is currently in its 60% design phase, where the designers will confirm that the project can be constructed and that the submitted plans and specifications meet the objectives of the project. A public hearing on design will take place on July 22, where officials will provide an update on the project.
