Funding available for implementing energy efficiency projects

September 27, 2023

The Department of Energy (DOE) will make $400 million in federal funds available to help states and communities update building energy codes. State officials interested in the funding must submit letters of intent by Nov. 21.

The funds are available because of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which has earmarked $1 billion to improve climate response. Approximately $240 million will be available to integrate codes for residential buildings and commercial structures. Another $160 million can be used to implement zero-energy code provisions.

The goal is to improve the energy efficiency of new construction, renovations and infrastructure work and to reduce damage from natural disasters.
