The Orange County Board of Commissioners awarded $650 million for two construction and expansion projects for the county’s convention center and university stadium. The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) received $560 million to fund the first phase of a facility expansion project. The University of Central Florida (UCF) received $88 million to build a sports tower at its football stadium.
The $560 million will help expand the convention center by constructing a grand concourse. The expansion provides 60,000 square feet of meeting space and an 80,000-square-foot ballroom. The concourse will provide an enclosed, air-conditioned connection between the facility’s north and south concourses. Construction will begin in 2024.
UCF will use the $88 million to add a west side tower to its football stadium. The tower will feature more capacity, additional event space, luxury suites and premium observation seating. The stadium tower is expected to be completed by 2025.
