Carmen-Ainsworth Community Schools (CACS) – located in Flint, Michigan – will invest $65.2 million to make critical safety enhancements, update campus infrastructure and improve sports facilities.

Enhancing the district’s school sites will take priority, starting with key improvements to infrastructure. These include updating the HVAC systems, replacing carpeting and flooring and updating the instructional audio/visual systems. As part of its improvement efforts, CACS will also create auxiliary space and replace staff computers, update cabinetry and replace classroom furniture.

Additional improvements will go toward updating the campus’ landscaping, exterior masonry and parts of the buildings’ roofing and membrane. Project aspects also cover updated restrooms, new digital entry signs, improved plumbing and replaced playground surfaces, gym acoustic panels and water heaters.

CACS will build on its infrastructure work by reinforcing safety and security across all facilities. For better security, the district will replace fencing and interior doors, build secure entrances and improve the pickup and drop off loops. Plans for enhancing overall safety will include upgrading the fire alarm system, improving the PA and phone system, making the administration building’s main entrance ADA compliant, replacing playground equipment and buying buses.

All remaining funding will support various arts and athletics upgrades. The vision includes replacing the district’s high school and middle school auditoriums, making locker room bathrooms ADA compliant and updating the industrial arts, choir and band rooms.

Plans for the district’s athletics include installing artificial turf on the football field, renovating the press box, resurfacing the tennis and pickleball courts, replacing gym scoreboards, replacing the baseball infield and dugouts and remodeling the soccer dugout.
