Federal funds available for transportation planning projects

The Prioritization Process Pilot Program (PPPP) supports the use of data-driven methods for planning transportation projects. The goal is to see how these methods benefit the public.

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) announced a $10 million Notice of Funding (NOFO) for an estimated five projects through the PPPP. The program has $30 million for FY 2022, 2023 and 2024, with a maximum award of $2 million per project. The first award under this program is scheduled for this year.

Eligible uses of the funding include creating and implementing transparent processes to prioritize transportation projects based on local needs. States and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) serving urbanized areas with a population greater than 200,000 are eligible to apply.

The NOFO opened Feb. 22, 2024, and closes May 1, 2024.
