Voters in the East Meadow Union Free School District in New York approved a $71.5 million school bond referendum on March 5, authorizing districtwide capital improvements focused on safety, athletics and arts facilities across East Meadow and Westbury.
The proposal was developed as part of the district’s “Reimagine” facilities plan, which identified building safety upgrades and improvements to student activity spaces as priorities.
The bond supports projects across the district, with every campus receiving security upgrades. Schools will add safety vestibules for controlled entry, install new classroom door locks and bring fire alarm systems up to code. Elementary schools will see playground renovations, while secondary campuses will receive athletics and facility improvements.
Middle and high schools will also gain new turf fields and other site-specific upgrades such as bleachers, lighting and restrooms, along with improvements to performing arts facilities, including HVAC upgrades, audio-visual enhancements and modernization of theater spaces.
District officials say the work will be phased in over the coming years as designs are finalized and construction schedules are developed.
