The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will spend roughly $49 million to build the Douglas International Commercial Port-of-Entry Connector Road, providing access between the upcoming port and State Route 80. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027.
The federal government allocated $20 million to the project after signing off on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021.
ADOT is in the process of building the Douglas International Commercial Port-of-Entry, seeking to uplift trade by increasing capacity and expand inspection capacity while reducing congestion and safety risks.
The connector road will facilitate port operations by connecting it with the state highway system. The project will build a four-lane divided roadway between SR 80 and the commercial port of entry facility, located along the James Ranch Road alignment. Plans also include building two roundabouts along the port of entry’s northern boundary and a two-lane undivided access roadway with shoulders on each side along its eastern boundary.
Additional work will include installing a traffic signal at the intersection of SR 80 and James Ranch Road. The department will also install roadway drainage infrastructure, which will require raising SR 80’s vertical alignment by 30 inches and reconstructing a mile of the roadway.
